Characteristics
Plant
tufted, the tuft dense, pale dull red, pinkish brown or greenish,
crisply membranous in texture, to 3-10 cm tall; branching alternate,
the branches 0.5-2.0 mm diam. tapering, segmented, the hollow segments
cask-shaped, 1.0-1.5 diameter long, the tips of the branches obtuse;
tetrasporangia 55-100 µ diam., numerous to the segments; cystocarp
relatively few, in prominent superficial pericarp.
